When I saw this one, I figured it was worth a try, especially since the price was much, much lower than anything else I had found, and it arrived in a few days (with no shipping charge).I read several reviews from people who had to drill new holes so I was a bit worried that it would actually fit. I guess I got lucky because everything lined up perfectly... only took about 15 minutes to install (including removing the old lock set)!! Just FYI: my Larson storm door was originally installed in 2001; it's 36" wide, 1.5" thick. The set comes with everything you need to replace the old stuff, and appears to be a very high quality. It was old, brassy, and finally fell apart. Rather than trying to fix it, we opted to replace it with an oil-rubbed bronze set that matched our new Baldwin door hardware. Baldwin is very -- VERY -- proud of their storm door sets. Spending that much was not an option. I happened upon this little beauty and figured that, for the price, I could afford to try it out and no biggie if it didn't fit/look good.Well, was I pleasantly surprised! I removed the package from the shipping box and noticed how heavy it was. That typically equates to quality. DING! When I removed the handle set from its box, I noticed how nice the ORB finish was. It wasn't just spray painted; it had a beautiful finsih with some very slight hints of copper showing. It looked like a terrific match for my Baldwin hardware. Another DING! The instructions are fairly easy to follow and I would have had this installed quickly if it wasn't for the holes not matching up with the old one. It was a lot of work to drill out new holes into our metal door, test fit, drill more, test fit, etc... but it was worth it in the end! No more ugly brass handles! I've attached a picture of what our handle looked like before so you can see the difference! |
