Initial installation was a bit difficult, even with the provided instructions and a gadget-handy person such as myself. But don't give up! Once you get the hang of it, this little lock will provide you with inexpensive security. Once installed, the door became nice and tight, and we were unable to open from the outside, even with a key. It can be used on any door that opens inward, so it's great for travel. Hotel staff can't open the door to your room even with a key or key card. Downside is, you might want to plan an alternate escape in case of fire. The lock detaches quickly, but could be trouble if it is dark, smoky, or otherwise difficult to see. It can be particularly helpful when renting vacation houses or condos where some realtors, property managers, or maintenance men tend to enter without even knocking at times. Too many people seem to have keys, and feel entitled to enter whenever they please, at such places. Unfortunately, it only fits traditional doors, and only when the door and lock fit the frame perfectly.I have never been able to use it at a hotel, and too often find it won't work in regular doors. Unfortunately, housekeeping and maintenance staff have keys to ALL locks, even deadbolts, and can even get into rooms with security bars easily. I would like to see a new version of this for hotels, and some change that would make it easier to use on "imperfect" doors. UPDATE: THIS ITEM HAS BEEN CHANGED, SINCE I WROTE THE REVIEW.
